Yellowwoods has a very active and happy pre-primary school where all our young ones are loved and nurtured. This area of the campus forms an integral part of the school. Children may enroll from the age of 3 and will be given the 3 years preparation before entering Grade 1.

The pre-primary teachers refer to the Revised National Curriculum and use it as a guideline for their planning.
The Grade 00 and Grade R classes enjoy dedicated teachers who are creative and thoroughly prepared. Letter Land, basic shapes and numbers 1-9 are introduced to the children and these are reinforced through games and fun activities.

The focus of Grade 00 is aimed at teaching the child basic skills, such as handling of scissors, crayons, ball skills and movement to develop fine- motor and gross- motor skills.
A very important component is that the child learns social and emotional skills through play. Our play area has jungle-gyms (slides, rope & net, climbing and hoop hanging), a Wendy house, sandpit and track.
Worksheets are kept to a minimum and the focus is on creativity (artwork) which teaches the child self-confidence and the ability to make choices. We have recently required 10 art easles, enabling the children to enjoy some art lessons outside.
Songs, rhymes, stories, listening / talking skills and interaction with peers and teacher, prepares our’ Yellowwoods littlies’ for the challenges of their future school careers.
Mrs. Eve Stoutjesdyk is our Grade 00 teacher. She stimulates them with loads of art and creative play where have fun while learning. Mrs. Diane Knickelbein takes care of the Grade R’s and makes sure they are ready for’ big school’,
Our pre-primary pupils are also given preference in securing a guaranteed placement in the Grade 1 class.
We place important focus on the Grade R year and with our caring and efficient staff in place, we are also able to diagnose and rectify any possibly learning difficulties well before the children reach their Grade 1 year.
This is also a time when the ‘little ones’ can settle into the school in a relaxed manner, making the transition into Grade 1 far less daunting.
