SCI-FEST 2012
Yellowwoods children from Grade 1 to Grade 7 attended Sci-Fest in Grahamstown this past week. The children had a fantastic time and our teachers are impressed with their general knowledge and enthusiasm shown towards the various shows that they attended. The Lazer Show was a favourite for most. This photo was taken in the workshop called 'Science in a Bottle' where the children made gears out of plastic bottles.

Welcome Back Our teachers and staff have hit the ground running, despite almost melting in this heat. The classrooms are looking fantastic and I applaud our teachers who have all put so much time and effort into preparing their classrooms for 2012. We have a record number of children this year. I feel so proud each and every time I interview a prospective family to hear that they have heard wonderful things about our school, especially numerous reports on our high standard of education. This once again proves how committed and passionate our teachers are. Mrs Nicole Painter

ANTI-POACHING - SAVE THE RHINO
On Friday, 18 November, Yellowwoods School children and staff wore black in support of anti-rhino poaching. The children arrived dressed in black with banners, posters and pictures of rhino's, showing their support. We have been following the story of the rhino's who were poached recently in the Eastern Cape. The South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement on Friday, 28 May 2010, that rhino poaching throughout the country has escalated at an alarming rate since the beginning of the 2010. To date South Africa has lost 362 rhinos, with the Kruger National Park (KNP) being the hardest hit in terms of numbers, followed by the North West Province and the Gauteng Province. The least hit province has been the Eastern Cape Province with eleven rhinos. We are proud of our children who all supported this cause. The funds raised will be donated to Save the Black Rhino Foundation.

MINI CRICKET TOURNAMENT
Yellowwoods has a number of budding cricketers - including some very enthusiastic girls. Boys and girls from Grades 1 to 3 play mini cricket and have just participated in the first tournament this term in Graaff-Reinet. The tournament, hosted by Union Primary School, was a wonderful experience and our two teams had a ball - congratulations to all our players. Mini cricket is a wonderful introduction to the game of cricket. Every child has a turn to bat, bowl, play wicket keeper and field and the children's laughter and smiles speak for itself. We are already looking forward to the tournament at Gill Primary School in Somerset East this coming weekend.

SPRING DAY GARDEN WINNERS!
On Friday the 21st October Mrs Barbie Knott and Mrs Jane Roberts judged our Spring Day Gardens. The Pre-Primary garden was chosen as the most interactive and well thought out garden. The children painted pots and rocks that were placed in and amongst their garden as well as stringing together sea shells that made an attractive curtain. Congratulations to our Pre-Primary for working so hard to make our school beautiful!
