GRADE R NEWS - FIRST TERM 2013

 We are following the Caps syllabus, which sets out and gives ideas for introducing the themes. 

We have completed:  My body, Senses, My family, Being Fit and Healthy Food. 

The children have enjoyed the outdoor activities such as Mini-Cricket, Tennisette and swimming.  The artwork is theme related and the children take home their work every month.  Computers twice a week is a huge highlight.  Gross-Motor, where we concentrate on balance, ball skills and locomotion is three times a week.  Music Ring, twice a week, where we learn action songs and introduce Afrikaans and Xhosa.  In addition to the Music Ring the children have a formal music lesson, where they learn notation and rhythm by using the percussion and marimba instruments. 

Bible:     

We are going through the various Bible stories of Genesis.  The children enjoy some fun games and songs.

Little Chefs:     

  The children bake something related to the theme every fortnight.  They enjoyed making gingerbread men, popcorn and caramel tart.
