The grade 5 class went on a wonderful ecology outing.  A great big thank you to Mrs. Isobel Sparks for hosting and running the course. But enough from me, let the students tell you all about it...

We went on an outing to Merino farm.  When we got there we put our bags down and went for a walk.  We saw a lot of interesting things on the walk.  After the walk we learnt about plants.  Then we went on another walk, when we got back we lit the fire.  We had supper and braaied marshmallows.  After that we told scary stories and went to bed.  The next morning we had breakfast and went on a walk to the look at algae in the dam.  We also found termites.

We went on an outing on Tuesday. We went for a walk twice and back, we even saw a warthog.  For lunch we had hotdogs and we drank juice, then we got to play outside.  At night we ate braaied sausage and pineapple.  Then we had to go to bed.  Zuko, Andrew, Casey, Avia, Emma, Daniel and Jamie came to our room to tell stories.  They went back to their rooms.  The teachers came to say goodnight, and about 30 minutes later we sneaked out of our room and we went to Avia’s room because they were scared. That night we slept at half past twelve, we even slept there.  We wanted to prank people but Mrs Ferreira said we were not allowed too.  The next morning we ate cereal and then we went on another walk.  I had lots of fun.

We got to the Bush Camp and sat for awhile, and then we went looking for insects and plants.  We saw some soil erosion; Mrs Sparks had tried to stop this by putting branches in the soil erosion.  Then we saw butterflies mating, while we were walking we smelt a stink of something dead, it was a warthog.  Then we went back to the bush camp and had a braai and slept.  It was a fun outing.

We went on an Ecology outing to Mrs. Sparks’ lodge.  The first thing we did was unpack our bags and we went on a walk through the veld, we looked at plants, trees and bugs.  We saw some poisonous plants.  When we got back from our walk we played a little bit and then we had lunch.  We had a braai for supper.  We went on other walks and we learned a lot about plants, trees and bugs.  It was nice!

We went to a trip.  We got there, packed our bags and went for a walk in the bush.  On the way we saw soil erosion.  So we went on.  We saw a dead warthog; we saw its maggots on the warthog’s mouth.  It smelled bad.  We came back and talked about the walk.  Some of us were very silly.  We braaied for supper.  The next day we went for a morning walk.  We went to a dam it was mushi.  We went back home to chat about flowers. It was fun.

We went on an ecology outing at Mrs. Sparks’ lodge.  When we got to the lodge we first went on a walk to learn about plants.  I got so hungry on the walk.  After the walk we had something to eat.  We had some free time to play after lunch.  Then we went on a walk to Mrs. Sparks’ house for a swim.  For supper we had a braai.  It was yummy.  All the girls slept in one cabin together.  In the morning we had hot chocolate and corn flakes.  At two o’clock we left to come back to school.

We went on an ecology outing to Mrs. Sparks’ lodge.  We spent the night there.  We learnt all about bugs and trees.  Now we know what plants we can and cannot eat and which bugs are poisonous.  For supper we had a braai and we braaied marshmallows.  We went for a few walks; on one of the walks we saw a dead warthog.

We went on an ecology outing to Manzikhanya farm.  We went for a walk and we saw a dead warthog.  We went back to the cabins and we had hotdogs for lunch.  They taught us about different flowers and trees.  It was great to learn about different insects and we saw a very big lizard!

We went on a outing to a bush camp.  We were there and packed our bags and we played a little bit.  We took a walk it was very long. We saw a warthog and it was dead and we took a picture of us climbing a hill.  We went back and ate lunch.  We went for another walk and we came back.

We went on an ecology outing to Mrs. Sparks’ lodge.  When we got to Mrs. Sparks’ lodge we took a walk and we walked to Mrs. Sparks’ house in the afternoon.  We looked at plants and animals that were there in the bush. And then Mrs. Sparks taught us about insects and plants.  And we saw a dead warthog in the dry river bed that we were walking in.  For supper we braaied and we braaied some marshmallows.  Then we went to bed, me, Fikiswa, Songo, Zine and Lukha were afraid so we went to Avia, Casey and Emma’s room.

We went on an outing to Manzikhanya Bush Camp on Tuesday.  We learned lots of things.  On Tuesday we first walked and learned about the things we saw.  We even saw a dead warthog, it was shot and it smelled very ugly!  I liked sneaking around at night; we had a braai and ate marshmallows.  On Wednesday we woke up and had to take another walk to the dam.  We were so sad because we were going home that day.
