Grahamstown Sci-Fest

On Saturday the 7th of May the Grade 1’s, accompanied by the Grade 3’s, went on an outing to the Science Festival in Grahamstown.  9 Terribly excited little bodies piled into the Quantum in the pouring rain, which did not dampen their spirits in the least!  When we arrived at the monument, the Grade 1’s were entertained by Sibo and the crew from Pretoria University who presented a child friendly workshop on chemistry, through the medium of a puppet show!  Thereafter, we raced off to our next activity, which was an origami workshop, where the Grade 1’s made gorgeous paper hats, fast-flying paper jets and delicate gift boxes.  Everyone had worked up quite an appetite by the time we finished our folding, so it was off to the fountain court to enjoy our packed lunches on the steps while we watched robots battle it out in a round-robin soccer match.  Appetites satisfied, the Grade 1 gang then made off to the Albany Museum, where they learnt about life in a pond, and rescuing sea-birds from oil spills.  After one more presentation at the Monument – on stars and constellations this time – the Grade 1’s and 3’s had a delicious milkshake treat at Wimpy, before heading home again, tired and weary.

First Term News - 2011

Grade 1 got off to a busy start.  The 15 new Grade 1's settled quickly into the daily routine of 'big school'.  They enjoyed going for weekly trips to the Winterberg Swimming pool on Tuesdays as well as learning to play mini cricket.  Many of us took part in the Interhouse Swimming gala where we had lots of fun cheering for out houses.  Sipho, Soyamile, Jordan , Derrin & Blessing have been our stars of the week so far.  We have been learning all about birds this term, as well as how to take good care of our bodies.  Our classroom is looking very colourful with our beautiful birds that are blowing in the wind!

Come and have a look!
